Best Tablet, The Popular Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1: My Impressions

The Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet is, probably, the most popular tablet from all the ones existing on the market. It has been very aggressively advertised from the very first moment of its apparition, but does that make it the best ten inch tablet? Stick with us for analysis and details.
The inside specs
The Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet hosts an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, with the frequency of 1 GHz. The tablet allows the user to store up to 16 GB of data and the battery lasts a little bit under ten hours. The processor is not really a surprise, since it is the most commonly used one for tablets and its frequency is a decent one. The battery’s life, on the other hand, is actually providing a very good time value.
Design & Software
The 10.1 inches tablet has a reduced thickness, comparing to the other devices of its kind, so it is quite a thin tablet. The only port it is equipped with is a USB one (no HDMI, no card slot, no 3G slot). For the connection to the internet, the Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet relies on Wi-Fi. Aside from the lack of slots and ports, I would only reproach its white back (which I consider rather a lack of taste, than part of an innovative look, but that is arguable). Regarding the software, the Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet is one of many Android Honeycomb Tablets.
The Display
The display of the Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet is a glossy one. By choosing such a display, the colors and contrasts are more visible than in the case of matt screen. The problem is handling with this display in the sunlight; this is where the fun gets lost. The resolution provided is 1280 x 800 pixels, so the gadget promises an enticing HD experience (we’ll see about that in the Performance chapter).
Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet is equipped with only one camera, which is placed in the rear part of the tablet. Its 3.0 Megapixels footage didn’t convinced us of the high quality offered in this particular area, so we are eagerly waiting for an improvement in the next model. How’s the competition doing? The competition is, most certainly, doing much better. The tablet that Asus released on the market (EEE Pad Transformer Prime) has an emphasis on cameras (two HD ones) and fast data processing (Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU). Lenovo and Sony tablets are also equipped with two cameras (rear and front ones), but the processor is the same (Tegra 2).
The Performance
The Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet is not the best 10 inch tablet existing on the market, so here my vote would go for the Asus tablet (although studies have shown that Honeycomb (Android 3.1) is not enough developed for the Tegra 3 CPU. However, the quality of display is not bad (this is actually one of the few things that made me happy about the tablet), the sound is great and the only camera is disappointing. It is a good tablet for multimedia (for instance its Music Beta turned out to be a little bit better than the Apple’s ITunes) and checking the Gmail on this device is easier than doing the same thing on any other device. All in all we could squeeze it into our top 10 inch tablet list.
How about the price?
Considering the performances and features of the Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 tablet I would say that the 500 $ starting price (for the 16GB version, but there’s also a $600 32GB WiFi model) doesn’t exactly fit it like a glove, but the choice of buying it or not is always yours!
